An-Najah National University and the Veterinary Association / Alquds center, ‎and under the auspices of the Governor of Tulkarm; Major General Issam Abu ‎Bakr, organized a workshop titled "The use of antibiotics and their impact on ‎the health of animals and humans".


This workshop comes within the activities of the Project of the Equitable Development of Agricultural Production and Market Systems in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, in cooperation with the Project: Beyond Barriers towards advancing Sustainable Rural Development, which takes into consideration gender differences in order to ensure food security and resilience of vulnerable communities in the West Bank, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

The Governor conveyed the greetings of the President Mahmoud Abbas and stressed on the importance of conducting such relevant and scientific workshops the benefits the agricultural sector in general, and the health of livestock and humans. He stressed on the significance of spreading awareness among farmers and veterinarians, especially that antibiotics need to be dealt with according to well-studied and specific scientific criteria, given its effect on human health as a result of consuming animal originated food.

Dr. Heba Al-Faris noted the key role of An-Najah National University in responding to a community need of establishing Veterinary Medicine Department, which aims to graduate and train specialized veterinarians with high efficiency in this field.

The workshop was concluded with several recommendations that will be followed up with relevant stakeholders.
