Nablus – An-Najah National University, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), held the second training course within the project “Green Jobs and Sustainable Income Opportunities for Palestinian Youth in the Agri-Food Sector” during the period 7–20 March 2023
The project aims to empower university youth by building their capacities in the fields of green agribusiness entrepreneurship, encouraging them to engage in the agricultural labor market, enhancing practical and technical skills necessary for creating sustainable job opportunities, and promoting the establishment of entrepreneurial projects linked to value chains in the agri-food sector, with special attention to the empowerment of women and youth.
A total of 61 young men and women out of 95 applicants participated in the training, which was based on the official training manual developed by FAO. The program covered several key topics, including: entrepreneurship, agricultural value chains, design thinking, labor market readiness, and financial and environmental feasibility analysis.
The training was delivered by a distinguished team of trainers: Dr. Tawfiq Al-Qubaj, Dr. Ola Anabtawi, and Dr. Ahmad Za’zou’, under the supervision and coordination of Dr. Hiba Al-Fares, the project coordinator at the university.
This project contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to promoting decent work opportunities for youth, empowering women, and encouraging green entrepreneurship, in addition to supporting local food production through sustainable methods that protect the environment and help reduce poverty and unemployment in rural communities.
Participants were selected according to clear and rigorous criteria to ensure fairness and equal opportunities, which included:
- Age under 29 years (20%).
- Year of graduation, with the highest scores awarded to 2020 graduates and the lowest to students in their final semester (30%).
- Interview performance and personal traits, with a focus on enthusiasm for working in the agri-food sector and previous practical experience (50%).
