An-Najah National University, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), launched the fourth training course from July 10 to 23, 2024, with the participation of 66 trainees out of 115 applicants. The training was held within the framework of the project “Green Jobs and Sustainable Income Opportunities for Palestinian Youth in the Agri-Food Sector”, which aims to empower university students by building their capacities in green agri-entrepreneurship and encouraging them to actively engage in the agricultural labour market.
It is worth noting that this additional training course was organized as a result of the joint efforts of FAO and the project team, and in light of the positive outcomes of the previous training programs.
The project focuses on strengthening the practical and technical skills necessary for creating sustainable employment opportunities, while also encouraging the establishment of entrepreneurial ventures linked to value chains in the agricultural and food sector, with particular emphasis on empowering women and youth.
A total of 66 young men and women participated in the training, receiving specialized instruction based on the official FAO training manual. The training modules covered entrepreneurship, agricultural value chains, design thinking, labour market readiness, and financial and environmental feasibility analysis. The sessions were delivered by a distinguished group of trainers—Dr. Tawfiq Al-Qubaj, Dr. Ola Anabtawi, and Dr. Ahmad Zaazaa—under the supervision and coordination of Dr. Heba Al-Fares, the project coordinator at the university.
It should be emphasized that this project contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through promoting decent employment opportunities for youth, encouraging green entrepreneurship, empowering women, and supporting local food production through sustainable methods that protect the environment and reduce poverty and unemployment in rural communities.
