The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Nutrition and Food Technology at An-Najah National University in cooperation with Palestine Standards Institution (PSI) of the Ministry of National Economy and the Palestinian Society for Consumer Protection, organized a workshop titled: "Food Quality and Safety".

The workshop was attended by Dr. Heba Al-Fares, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Mr. Muhammad Dalaq from PSI and Dr. Samer Mudallal, Lecturer in the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology at the University.

It provided the participants with the necessary framework for the design and implementation of effective food safety and quality systems. It included a discussion about ensuring safe food production in compliance with regulatory and global food safety and quality management system standards.

“Food safety is about consumers safety, and food quality is about consumers’ satisfaction. Both concepts require stringent practices on the food supply chain in order to preserve food from contamination, food-borne illness or other type of adulteration that would affect the final safety and quality of the food product”. Mr. Dalaq said.

Dr. Mudallal talked about mycotoxin levels in food in the Palestinian market, and referred to a number of research studies that have been implemented regarding food quality and safety in the Palestinian market.
